Comments: Incredible website!! I particularly loved the section on great movie posters. The artists who did movie posters have not received their due in film history. Perhaps someday that will change. Thanks for all the work that went into this great site!!

Comments: I really enjoyed with your revisions of Sunset Boulevard and All about Eve. Your site is extremely useful. One more thing you maybe don't know: the official spanish dictionary (Real Academia Espaņola) includes the word "rebeca" with the meaning "a short jacket for women". The origin of that is the jacket Joan Fontaine wore at the beginning of her stay in Manderley, in Alfred Hitchcock's "Rebecca"...

Comments: I really love this site. It has helped me alot with my homework, I had to do a movie review on North by Northwest, which I enjoyed. I don't mean to be a bug but could you do one on Princess Mononoke? I know this sounds rude and you are probably working on something else but I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for reading my comment. Sincerely, Isami Android 13

Comments: Great site, and great choices ! But why does both "100 Greatest Films" and "100 More Greats" contain 101 films ?? So your "200 Greatest Films" is in fact 202 films ??

Comments: Your site is truly great. I was 13 years old when the AFI announced its 100 Greatest Films. Curious that I was, I watched a few of the flicks that I thought would be good. At the age of 13, I found that "old" movies are great. After watching every film on the AFI's list, I noticed they left off many masterpieces, especially silence. Some left off include INTOLERANCE, BIG PARADE, CROWD, SUNRISE, GREED, GENERAL, BLADE RUNNER, NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, A NIGHT AT THE OPERA, NOTORIOUS, et al. Through your site, I have found many more films that were left off by the AFI and have watched them. THANK YOU. Colin

Comments: U should have a genre "spoofs" because there are so many of them and there is hardly anything about them on this site (which isn't good as I'm doing a College project on them at the moment!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Comments: I visit your site on an almost ritualistic basis and admire the work and structure that you have instilled into this website. But you have to respect my shock when I realized your Greatest Films list conspicuously ignores Stone's "JFK". Along the line of Fargo, Goodfellas, Schindler's List and Pulp Fiction, JFK was unquestionably one of the best cinematic achievements of the 1990s. Technically, it was marvelous. It was crafted in an unprecedented radical mosiac style incorporating stock footage, 35mm, 16mm, 8mm and video formats while fusing the spherical, Super 8 and Panavision cinematographic processes. Its editing beautifully condensed and glued together an incredible quantity of factual circumstance to paint a staggering rendition of the events surrounding Novemeber 22, 1963. It was more than just another film upon the time of its release to the public eye. It faced brutal critisism for its historial "inaccuracy" which boldly contradicted its astounding critical praise. JFK was a generator of thought, research and intrigue into the Kennedy assassination and into the hypocracy and duplicious possibilities our governmental bodies Not often in the 1990's did a film generate such incredible fascination among the general population. JFK was a magnificent piece of artistic magnificence that helped me realize my true intrigue with filmmaking and deviated from the contrived, play-to-satisfy-the-public film conventions of modern day cinema. I adore this piece and urge you to recognize it as one of the best films of the 1990's. This should become your next big dissection assignment, analyzing it in a detailed summary. It deserves this attention and I would love to see this film be done the justice it has rightfully earned.

Comments: How could you have left out "Sleepy Hollow" (1999) from your list of the greatest horror films? Not only were the sets and screenplay beautifully done, but it was a dramatic return to Tim Burton's earlier style of filmmaking not to mention the most complex horror/mystery I've seen in recent years and was a great tribute to the British Hammer films of the '50s and '60s.

Comments: I am a 2nd year university student (at the University of Wolverhampton, in England) who enjoyed her Film Studies lectures so much last year, she decided to add the subject to her award title! (I now study Media & Communication Studies and Film Studies). I wanted to say how useful your work has been to me...I am currently doing two modules involving Alfred Hitchcock. I had already studied 'Brief Encounter' last year and knew this site to be a treasure trove, so this year it was my first port of call for information! Thank you and keep this going!!!!

Your reviews are so thorough and laced with such rich quotes that I feel compelled to ditch my well-thumbed film guide. Keep up the good work. I love the non-Oscar winners site - my sentiments entirely.

Comments: Tim Dirks has outdone himself with this site. Prior to what one might think when they enter "The Greatest Films," Tim created this site entirely by himself, which means that he put a lot of time and dedication into it. Several people are making fools of themselves by complaining about how a certain film wasn't included in his top 100. Dirks has an excellent top 100 list that includes the ultimate "definitive" list, made up of films that may not all be his personal favorites, but they are the films most beloved by critics and movie fans. You might prefer "A Clockwork Orange" over "The Birth of a Nation," and "A Clockwork Orange" may hold up as a better film, but the list isn't based on obvious favorites, it is about historic landmarks and cinematic signposts. So stop complaining. So click on the FAQ's link and scroll down until you see the "click to pay" icon and click it. Dirks should be congratulated for having the best film site on the net.

Comments: This is my first visit to your site, but it will not be the last. I am a film buff and there is so much info to browse through. For a fan of the old movie stars, this is the right place to be. I think the likes of Clark Gable, David Niven, Bette Davis, and so many more I could list, these filmstars will never be forgotten, unlike some of the movie stars of today who are a five minute wonder. The older films are a pleasure to watch, generaly no bad language, not so violent, and more romantic without the aid of bed-hopping. Most of all the pictures get on with the story-line quicker. And before I say anymore, I am not an old fuddie duddie, I am 39 and just appreciate the movie classics. Keep up the good work on this site.

Comments: I just finished reading your synopsis/review of "Double Indemnity." Oh-MY-gosh --- it was wonderful. Mr. Dirks, you definitely have a gift for "story re-telling." And what a great idea for a website! I had seen only part of "Double Indemnity," due to phone calls and other family interruptions. Naturally, I went straight to the internet, in search of something to fill in the gaps for me. Your wonderful review went beyond plugging those plot-holes, it was like reading the book AND seeing the movie again. Thanks very much for your time and effort! NancySue

Comments: This site is WONDERFUL! I'm really glad an internet resource exists with detailed, scene-by-scene analyses of great films. These descriptions have shed light on scenes that I've found difficult to understand, illuminated subtext I wasn't picking up on before, explained the significance of certain lines of dialog, and otherwise made me aware of things that I wasn't previously (like that "psuedo-subliminal" dialog in Blade Runner). Keep up the good work, you guys!

Comments: This is probably the best site I have ever seen on classic hollywood films. However, there is only one minor flaw - MORE reviews should be written for films by Audrey Hepburn, I'd love to see that. OTHERWISE great.

Name: Colin - July 16, 2001

Comments: No doubt about it - Altman perfected his unique techniques in his film NASHVILLE. These techniques include use of the zoom lens, improv dialogue, a scoreof individual characters, and political satyr. So why not add the film which pioneered these techniques to the TOP 200 - M*A*S*H - a more beloved film than NASHVILLE that deserves recognition.

Comments: Granted, I just found this site and only scaned the top 100 and the next 100, but where in the heck is "Cannery Row"???????? It's got to be one of the best ever. Does it make you laugh? Does it make you cry? Does it make you think? Is it beautyfully photographed? Is it well cast? Is it a powerful story? I don't know about you, but I have always thought it was a much better film than it's been given credit for. What do you think?
