The 23rd film in the series after a long four year gap since the last film, and the third film with Daniel Craig as Bond, on the 50th Anniversary of the Bond Films. It was the first one word Bond movie title in seventeen years, since GoldenEye (1995).

This marked the first time that an Academy Award-winning director would helm a James Bond film - Sam Mendes (American Beauty (1999)).

It was not a continuing story or sequel to the previous film. The film's title "Skyfall" was not an original Ian Fleming book title, and the plot was not related to any previously-published Ian Fleming novel or story.

The characters of Miss Moneypenny and Q, who didn't appear in the last two Bond movies, were resurrected. It also marked the 7th appearance of Judi Dench in the role of M (over a period of 17 years).

With a production budget of $? million, and gross revenue of $? million (domestic) and $? million (worldwide).
