Director Christopher Nolan brought his 'Batman trilogy' to a close with this eighth Batman film in the series: The Dark Knight Rises (2012), following after his own Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008). The screenplay was written by Nolan with his brother Jonathan from a story conceived by the director and David S. Goyer.

The story commenced eight years after the end of the previous film. New characters included police officer John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Wayne Enterprises board member and love-interest Miranda Tate (Marion Cotillard), and Batman's mysterious adversaries: high-society con-artist Selina Kyle - Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) and evil muzzle-mask-faced terrorist Bane (Tom Hardy). Batman's old allies continue to be Alfred (Michael Caine) and Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman). Impressive scenes include the explosion of a football field, a skyjacking, and a mob's destruction of Gotham City.

With a production budget of $ 250 million (estimated), it totaled $ ? million (domestically) and $ ? million (worldwide).
